In order to indicate the location of contrastive focus clearly to the subjects, the experimental sentences were recorded and incorporated into a computer program to be played back automatically. A significant effect of the presence of a required contrastive focus was found in one of the test items, indicating that Japanese VP-ellipsis is sensitive to the location of contrastive focus in the same way English is.
