| 内容記述 | The aim of this paper is to investigate cognate objects in both English and German based on empirical data and to present a contrastive analysis of this linguistic phenomenon from the functional-typological view. Many linguists treat cognate objects simply as a matter of a style, or even as a fossilized use of language, with a limited selection of verbobject combinations, but it will be pointed out how richly it is prevalent among the Englishand German-language users. Also, it will be shown that by using the semantic map, the productivity of cognate objects is much more relevant to some semantic domains rather than syntactic ones. | |||||
