| 内容記述 | This paper examines two Japanese complex postpositions, ni-yotte and ni-tsuite, which are attached to nouns to indicate instrumental, causal, relative and some other meanings. Historically speaking, these postpositions were developed from two verbs respectively, yoruto draw nearer/to approachand tsukuto attach/to adhere, whose coremeanings point to something moving toward another object and finally coming in contact with it. On the other hand, these postpositions are further developed into conjunctions to connect independent sentences. The aim of this paper is to show how these diachronic changes of these postpositions can be observed and explained in the framework of grammaticalization theory. | |||||
